Mission And Values Statement
Last updated June 2020
Our mission is to create a physical and virtual space in which creative individuals can explore ideas, develop their practice and connect with others.
Guidelines for Residents
In the Cel del Nord physical and virtual environment everybody deserves respect, and everyone’s work deserves respect. If you can’t exist in an atmosphere of inclusion, where everybody is considered equal, then we are not the organisation for you. By breaking any law, using hate speech or physical or verbal violence, a resident immediately relinquishes any right to inclusion in our programs.
Vision
A physical and virtual environment, removed from the expectations of everyday life.
An atmosphere of inclusion for artists who might not have undertaken conventional career paths in the arts.
A constantly expanding network of peers for our residents to connect with and seek support from.
An evolving program of events and activities for residents and past-residents.
Financial self-sufficiency for the organisation balanced against affordability for residents.
Purpose
To provide a physical or virtual structure inside which creative ideas and practices can be tested, explored and expanded.
To connect creative people so they can nurture peer-to-peer relationships.
To support groups and individuals in finding solutions to creative blocks and hurdles through encouragement and guidance.
Values
We value artists based on their commitment to a creative practice above all else. For example;
Those who have made a career of their creative practice.
Those who have made a career of their practice even if that career doesn’t include selling art work.
Those who commit to a practice whilst also undertaking paid work.
Those who commit to a practice alongside caring for dependents.
Those who have committed to a practice later in life.
We do not consider an artist’s sales, social media following, prestige or attendance at high-brow institutions as part of our selection process.
Transparency
We are a white-European founded and run organisation.
As of June 2020 we subsist on voluntary contributions, fees and donations while pursuing arts funding.
We strive towards cultural sensitivity and seek to create a program that is inclusive of people from all backgrounds.
